Sophia Maier-Johnston Memorial Scholarship

The Sophia Maier-Johnston Memorial Scholarship was established in 1973 and has provided over $100,000 in financial aid to disabled college students.  It was inspired by our Founder, Sophia Maier-Johnston, who suffered from significant hearing loss during her life.  Each Province selects a local recipient for this annual scholarship.  The Sigma Beta Dime Fund makes these scholarships possible.  Raising money for the Dime Fund has inspired creativity and innovation from Sigma Beta sisters everywhere.  The Dime Fund has its very own mascot in the form of an adorable little bovine bank named Sweet Bessie.   To learn more about eligibility or how to apply, contact Sigma Beta's Scholarship Chairperson.

Bessie Bovine's tale began in Fort Wayne, IN, at the 2003 Sigma Beta National Convention.  She was taken hostage and Sigma Betas ponied up moolah to the Dime Fund to set her free.  Now Bessie is auctioned off every year tto benefit the Dime Fund.  Her keepers take her home and treat her to adventures in travel and occasionally mischief.  All the while, Bessie raises money and awareness for the Sigma Beta Dime Fund.  Visit Bessie's web site to share in her adventures!  To learn how you can help Bessie in her efforts, contact Sigma Beta's Dime Fund Chairperson.  Bessie is currently on tour with Chi Eta chapter in Indiana.
